NGL Storage Tanks
Location: Taranaki, New Zealand
Project Summary
Feasibility concept project to investigate the proposed installation of a new tank (and space for a second future tank) for safe storage and handling of Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) for use at the clients Production Station.
Scope
The Five-D scope for the NGL Storage Tank feasibility project is concept engineering design including the following:
- Size and design of required tank.
- Identify preferred location of tank.
- Liaise with “location certifier” to fully understand any constraints.
- High level Class IV CAPEX estimate for the project.
- Review the impact on Hazardous Area Zone.
- Produce concept level P&IDs
- HAZOP Safety Review
- Project management services for the above
Challenges
The forecast production schedule suggested there would not be sufficient time for the design and onsite fabrication of new tanks. To overcome this, prefabricated transportable tanks where considered, with discussions with tank suppliers to establish the best technical solution (considering single skin, double skin tanks fire rated, bunded and unbunded) to best meet the time constraints for the client.
Outcome
The NGL storage tank Concept Report, CAPEX estimate, and HAZOP provided the client with a firm basis for the decision to proceed (or not) with the project detailed design.
